This is a gorgeous Italian Plique-á-Jour hummingbird brooch crafted by Alioto Adriana of Genova. It truly stands out with beautiful and vibrant colors. This bird has fine filigree work for his wings, overlaid with enamel in blue and green. His head is a bright orange and lime green and his belly is brown and teal. Plique ‘a Jour is a French term meaning ‘letting in daylight’. A process in which enamel is applied in wire cells, similar to cloisonné, but without a backing. As it is transparent, light easily shines through the translucent enamel causing it to appear much like stained glass. This hummingbird is constructed of sterling silver twisted filigree metal. It was made by a true artisan in Italy.
